  • Tropical montane forests in a warming world

    [8 Jun 2020] ¿Rwanda, the land of a thousand hills, depends on its forests and trees that protect soil fertility, preserve biodiversity, help to cope with climate change and provide fuel for cooking. But the forests used to be much vaster.¿ Eric Mirindi Dusenge, Focali member and researcher at University of Gothenburg, is part of a project to find out how native tree species can contribute to tackling ongoing challenges in a warming world.

  • Sweden´s largest CO2 capture and storage plant launched

    [29 May 2020] ¿Sweden´s largest test facility for carbon dioxide capture has begun operation at Preem's refinery in Lysekil. Within the pilot project the entire value chain will be analyzed ¿ from the capture of carbon dioxide to its storage. The outcome of the project will enable more companies to use the technology and reduce their carbon dioxide emissions.

  • Antarctic ice walls protect the climate

    [26 Feb 2020] Inland Antarctic ice contains volumes of water that can raise global sea levels by several metres. A new study published in the journal Nature shows that glacier ice walls are vital for the climate, as they prevent rising ocean temperatures and melting glacier ice.
